Recently I visited the Kamla Raheja Design Dissertation Awards. Students from the final year
from the last year 2013 displayed the panels of their thesis projects in the school. Around
22 panels were put up for the display and among them 10 had presented their
work.
The Jurors were
Sameep Padora, Rajeev Thakker and Madhav Raman(anagram architects).
The students presenting
were given a 10 min time slot wherein they had to explain their project
followed by the jury comments and questions.it was a good session altogether, but
certainly the extreme research and background studies led to the shortage of
time and many students could not reach to their design strategies and fall
short of time.
Another interesting
fact about the projects was they had multiple sites and interventions. The projects
were not bound by conventional ideas of museum, public park, hospital, hotel
etc. poetic project were we very well addressed in term of program while the
one relating to issue had its own specificities.
Few students
presented the jury on behalf of their friend while one jury was taken on skype
and other one happened via online call. These all suggest how a school is open
to such ideas and is free in a way.
The panels filled with overflowing essays of
analysis. The diagrammatic presentation of few panels was commendable
All the panels were
restricted to be composed on A2 sheet, as standards of UDRI chrarles correa
gold medal and NIASA thesis awards. So a uniformity in the exhibition was seen.
